Easter is the most important part of our church calendar each year. We have lots on over Holy Week that we would love to invite you. More details of all our services and events are available on our Easter page.
Palm Sunday (13th April)
We will be starting Holy Week off with a traditional Palm Sunday service with holy communion at 9am and an informal all-age Palm Sunday service at 10:45. There will be no separate kids and youth groups on this Sunday as we would love all our kids and youth to join us for the whole service. Please note that there will be no 7pm service on Palm Sunday.
Holy Week Morning Prayer and Evening Compline
During Monday – Wednesday of Holy Week (14th-16th April) we will be holding short times of Morning Prayer and Evening Compline in our worship space. We would love to invite you to take time out of your week to join us each morning and evening as we reflect on the cross together. Timings below:
Monday: 9am and 7pm
Tuesday: 9am and 7pm
Wednesday 6:30am, 9am and 7pm
Holy Week at Home
For those of you who would prefer to reflect on Holy Week at home, we have some Holy Week at home boxes left over from 2024. In these you will find all you need to reflect practically on the events of this most special week and guides for prayer to help you engage in the Easter story – available for a £2 donation – please contact the office if you would like one or reserve one directly via our website.
Maundy Thursday Service and Meal
On Maundy Thursday (17th April) we will be holding a special service to remember and reflect upon the night before Jesus died. Doors will open at 6:45pm with the service starting promptly at 7pm, we will eat together, worship together and share communion. Tickets for this are £5 per person to cover the cost of the meal and are available on our website until 14th April. If you would be able to provide a pudding to share to help us keep our costs down, then please do get in touch with lizi@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk
Please note, the service will not be aimed at children, but older children may want to come and are welcome.
Good Friday
The worship space will be open for a time of quiet contemplation on Good Friday (18th April) from 9-11am. Please do join us for as much or as little of this time as you can. Following this, we will be joining churches across the city for a special outside Good Friday Service at 12noon in Guildhall Square. If you would like to come, but have issues with transportation, please do get in touch with the office.
Easter Sunday
On Easter Sunday we have three services to invite you to:
5:50am – Outside Sunrise Holy Communion Service (meeting at Riverside Park Pontoon) followed by bacon rolls back at Ascension.
9am – Traditional Easter Sunday Service with Holy Communion
10:45am – All-Age Celebration Service with Holy Communion.
Easter at The EDGE Hub
There is lots going on at the EDGE Hub over the Easter holidays too:
Tuesday 8th -Thurday 10th,10am-12pm – Creating artwork for the Townhill Community Art Gallery.
Saturday 12th, 10am-12pm- Breakfast club
Monday 14th, 10am-12pm – Easter Crafts (Free session)
Tuesday 15th, 10am-12pm – Create your own miniature Easter Garden (£1.00 per child)
Wednesday 16th 10am-12pm – Easter wreath making – all materials supplied (£4 per wreath)
Saturday 19th 10am-12pm – Bring the whole family for a special Easter brunch as we celebrate the amazing story of Easter. (Adults £1.00 kids 50p)
